Colorectal cancer survivors are at risk of developing subsequent primary cancer (SPC) in both primary colorectum and extracolonic organs, which is neither a recurrence nor spread of the original cancer. Currently, there is no way to determine which survivors are at the highest risk of SPC. My PhD will develop a risk prediction model for a SPC, by studying 7,500 people from the Colon Cancer Family Registry over 15 years and validate the model using an independent cohort of colorectal cancer survivors from the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study. This model will help clinicians determine which survivors are at the highest risk of subsequent primary cancer in the extracolonic organs, allowing for early detection measures.
