Chamila Thilakarathne: BDS, MSc (Medical Administration), MD (Medical Administration) is a Post-Doctoral Fellow from Sri Lanka doing her traineeship in the NCDU. Her primary role is to gain experience regarding how the Australian health system works for prevention and control of non-communicable diseases as well as to obtain research training on how to implement scalable Australian programs to improve the Sri Lankan health system.
Shilanthi Seneviratne - MBBS, MSc (Community Medicine), MD (Community Medicine)
The project- “Training and digital care co-ordination for improved prevention of Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease by primary health care teams in South Asia” is part of Dr. Shilanthis’s trainee project with NCDU. The general aim of this project was to develop and evaluate platforms for training and care-co-ordination by PHC team in South Asia, to improve prevention of T2D and CVD. The process of mapping the context of current programmes included a systematic review on CHW training focused on cardiometabolic disease control at primary health care level in low-and middle- income countries.
Allissa Desloge (BA, MPH) from Yale University, recently commenced a Fox International Fellowship award for the 2019-2020 academic year with the NCD Unit at the Nossal. The Fox International Fellowships are made possible by the generosity of Joseph Carrère Fox and his wife, Alison Barbour Fox, and include exchanges with 20 world- renowned academic partners including the University of Melbourne. Allissa will be undertaking a program linked to Professor Oldenburg’s research in India and the activities of the WHO Collaborating Centre and will be assessing the relationship between mental health functioning and diabetes progression.
