Research Hub for the Asia-Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO)
Supported by World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank, The APO is a collaborative partnership of interested governments, international agencies, foundations, and researchers that started 2012 to promote evidence-informed health system policy regionally and in all countries in the Asia Pacific region. Nossal Institute for Global Health is one of three competitively selected Research Hub partners, collecting, analysing and synthesizing evidence from across the regions.
The APO is aiming to create a body of knowledge and evidence on health systems in the Asia Pacific region, comparable across countries, through collection and analysis of information and research evidence on health care policies and reforms. Through the APO the Nossal has been engaged in country level dialogue with key stakeholders including government, development partners, civil society and academia, to build consensus on needed policy directions. The APO helps develop evidence-informed health policies within countries; and to develop and strengthen national and regional capacity in research, analysis and knowledge translation.
As a research hub partner, the Institute has contributed through the following activities and achievements:
- Production of more than 25 policy briefs to share knowledge with government and civil society stakeholders
- Leading the development of the Health in Transition publications for Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, PNG and Indonesia
- Supporting a range of policy dialogue events and stakeholder workshops in regional locations
- Membership of the APO board and steering committee.
