Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion Contextual Analysis

Project Details

Interplast Australia and New Zealand sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) operates using a similar model, sending volunteer medical teams from a range of different surgical and non-surgical specialties to 11 Pacific Island Countries to assist in complex medical case management and provide training, mentoring and education to Pacific Island clinicians.

This project aims to provide Interplast and RACS with an in-depth understanding of how gender and disability impact access to specialist health services, and impact employment within the health workforce.

Diversity and equality concept. The subgroups or types of diversity with ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion and disability words written on wooden blocks.

The research team will analyse existing documentation to identify key research questions and themes.

The analysis and resulting recommendations will be used:

  2. to inform its Gender Equality Strategy and Disability Inclusion Strategy, and
  3. to inform program design in each country, including through expanding partnerships
