Preparing the Pacific Renewable Energy Investment Facility
Project Details
Tonga’s capital, Nuku'alofa, is home to critical infrastructure and services, such as government offices, the country's main port, hospitals, commercial hub, schools, water, and power utilities. The existing urban infrastructure is insufficient to meet the demands of the current urban population.
There has been significant migration to Nuku'alofa from the outer islands. The urban growth has not been matched by the provision of, or improvement in the delivery of, urban services. Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other development partners have been supporting Tonga Power Limited (TPL) to deliver a program to improve and upgrade and expand the electricity network in the capital.
This project will conduct a detailed gender analysis of the Nuku'alofa Network Upgrading Project (NNUP) to ensure the project can be categorized as ' effective gender mainstreaming. ' A gender action plan will be prepared and gender design features integrated in the project design and documents.
The analysis will be completed in February 2022 and will benefit women and aims to improve gender equality.
