New article - We Can Eliminate Cervical Cancer
Dr Tessa Saunders, Dr Claire Nightingale and Claire Bavor from EISU, along with A/Professor Megan Smith from the Daffodil Centre, recently had an article published in Melbourne University's Pursuit, on International Women's Day (8 March 2023). Their article focused on the need for equity in approaches to achieve elimination of cervical cancer as a public health issue, in Australia and globally. While Australia is on track to achieve elimination, there is a risk that people who experience additional barriers to cervical screening will miss out if strategies are not implemented to improve equitable access. Dr Nightingale and A/Prof Smith are co-leading the NHMRC-funded 'Supporting Choice' project, which is working with both providers of screening and people from under-screened groups to generate evidence about what works, and what more is needed, to achieve equitable access. Exploring the opportunities now available with the introduction of self-collection into the national program is a focus of this work.
