Justice Health Unit partners in 1st World Conference on Health in Detention

The Justice Health Unit is honoured to be a partner in the 1st World Conference on Health in Detention. The conference will take place from 27 June to 29 June 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The conference is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with co-sponsorship from the World Health Organization Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) and in partnership with the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), the University of Melbourne’s Justice Health Unit (JHU), and the Worldwide Prison Health Research and Engagement Network (WEPHREN).

This conference is the first of its kind and aims to provide a platform for health care professionals and management working in detention settings and academics from a range of disciplines. It is an opportunity to share research and experience, as well as challenges and lessons learned, with the aim of promoting a whole-government approach to the stewardship of health care in detention.

The conference will bring together a range of practitioners and managers, including those from government ministries responsible for prisons and prison health, officials from health ministries or departments, academics, public health experts, representatives from international organizations and researchers and specialists from around the world.

The four main conference themes are:

  • From policy to practice: People at the centre to improve health for all
  • Towards stronger health systems in detention
  • Making the invisible visible
  • Embracing the digital transformation

Justice Health Unit Head, Prof Stuart Kinner, is on both the Central Organisational and Conference Committee and the Asia Pacific Regional Committee for the conference. JHU is honoured to be invited to partner with these major global organisations and we look forward to this significant inaugural conference.

Registrations close on 30 March 2022. Attendance is by invitation only.
