Tom Shakespeare in Melbourne

We were honoured to host leading disability expert Professor Tom Shakespeare in July 2018.

Professor Tom Shakespeare was a guest of the Centre of Research Excellence in Disability and Health (CRE-DH) and the Melbourne Disability Institute, meeting people in the area of disability research, support and advocacy.

In Sydney he presented a number of public talks including  Robotics in the Disablity Care sector? as part of UNSW's Grand Challenges Program and a panel discussion with Sue Salthouse on What it takes to achieve choice and control at Sydney Ideas (Sydney University).

In Melbourne he collaborated with researchers in the Disability and Health Unit at the Centre for Health Equity on a series of projects, including research into community attitudes, behavioural change and disability as well as gender, identity, sexuality and disability.  Importantly, Tom Shakespeare also participated in stakeholder discussions as part of the Melbourne Disability Institute's strategic planning process.

Watch the video below of Professor Shakespeare's lecture on disability support work in Melbourne, Thursday 19 July 2018. Also featured are Dr George Taleporos, Summer Foundation and Professor David Hayward, VCOSS-RMIT Future Social Service Institute.

The video is fully captioned and you can download (pdf) a transcript of the lecture 'Empowering people with disabilities without exploiting their workers' or email us and we can send you a different version if required.
