A public consultation is now open on the proposed data collection framework for sexual and reproductive health (SRH), released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
The framework addresses the priority care areas of pregnancy loss before 20 weeks' gestation, perimenopause/menopause, termination of pregnancy,  contraception and menstrual disorders (including endometriosis).
The framework’s proposed data collection is focused on:
*     Who is – and who is not – accessing sexual and reproductive healthcare when they need it
*     What the barriers are to accessing SRH health care
*     What the experiences are of those who do access care.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are one of the three priority groups, along with culturally and linguistically diverse demographics and gender diverse care-seekers.
The proposed data collection will assist stakeholders better understand the current state of SRH in Australia, address barriers to access, shed light on people’s needs and experiences, and to improve policy, services and outcomes over time.
Among the proposals are the leveraging of existing data sets but also the creation of new data sets, such as a national SRH survey, a national pregnancy loss register and a workforce survey, skills and practice audit.
