The Indigenous Eye Health Unit (Minum Barreng) at The University of Melbourne were proud to partner with the Indigenous Hip Hop Project, Gilimbaa, Looma Health Clinic, Looma Community Inc, Indigenous Land Corporation, Myroodah Station and Liveringer Station to create this music video to raise awareness around the issue of diabetes and eye health in Indigenous communities. This music video will form the part of a National Campaign encouraging community members with diabetes to get a yearly eye check and to raise awareness among the community around prevention and treatment for eye health.
Looma- Diabetes Eye Health- See What I See
Spoken Word
I got memories from what I’ve seen this place has a history
As I grow older I wanna see tomorrow,
I don’t wanna be Mill yugood
I wanna see the birds I wanna see the trees
I wanna see the Looma Eagles win the victory
I gotta be brave, I gotta be strong
With my diabetes I got to see someone
Verse 1
This country of ours is where the river people lie
Working the cattle from the Sun rise
Ringer cracks the whip, jillaroo’s work the horse
Mustering Bramans and short horns
From my home I see the road train roll down that gravel road
Double decker dogs all lined up, towing a heavy load
The old black crow with a vision so old Sitting by the boab tree
To keep my vision to stay alive Living In the Kimberley
Chorus
I see, you see
We all see our country
There’s no place I’d rather be
Livin in the Kimberley
My boots are made of leather
My heart is made of gold
Im lookin to the future
The Kimberleys is in my soul
Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhooooooo!!!
Verse 2
I wanna show you what I see in the heart of the Kimberley
Hop back in the tray back and I’ll take you through my country
The aroma of the spinifex dust in your eyes
Can you see the eagle soaring way up in the sky
Just past a road train on its way to the station
Picking up that beef for a special occasion
Chorus
I see, you see
We all see our country
There’s no place I’d rather be
Livin in the Kimberley
My boots are made of leather
My heart is made of gold
Im lookin to the future
The Kimberleys is in my soul
Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhooooooo!!!
Verse 3
Heading down the Myroodah Crossing to the Fitzroy River
We got secret spots at the Marduwurra. Its our home forever
Going out hunting towards gully creek
Big barny chillinin the kongerberry tree
What I see in my memories, Livin In the Kimberley,
Chorus
I see, you see
We all see our country
There’s no place I’d rather be
Livin in the Kimberley
My boots are made of leather
My heart is made of gold
Im lookin to the future
The Kimberleys is in my soul..Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhooo!!!
