At least one out of every five young people suffers from a mental disorder in any given year. Youth is the stage at which most mental disorders begin, and poor mental health has a strong relationship with other areas of health and well-being. Yet, most mental-health-service needs are unmet, with rates of unmet need particularly high in developing countries.

In an effort to combat this, researchers in northern India are exploring approaches to building resilience among vulnerable young people. These approaches aim to strengthen planning skills, persistence, empathy, self-regard and kindness – assets that can help young people deal with experiences of adversity such as poverty or gender exclusion. Join us to hear these researchers and other leading experts in the field discuss what can be achieved through such interventions.
