Free online course in Health Systems Strengthening
Launched globally in July, this course will develop skills and confidence in policy makers, managers and clinicians working in health systems to analyse system problems and take decisive, evidence-based actions to strengthen their system.
The Nossal Institute for Global Health, in collaboration with UNICEF and FutureLearn, has developed a free online course in health systems strengthening. Launched globally in July 2019, this course will develop skills and confidence in policy makers, managers and clinicians working in health systems to analyse system problems and take decisive, evidence-based actions to strengthen their system.
Based on the professional development course the Nossal designed for UNICEF staff, this free course is designed for busy professionals seeking to develop health systems skills and knowledge, and is also open for organisations to use in training their own staff, either as a standalone or in facilitated training. The eight modules, each taking two-three hours to complete, cover:
- Health systems frameworks and structure;
- Interventions at different health system levels, from community-based action through to policy development;
- Identifying and addressing health system inequities;
- Human resources for health;
- Health financing;
- Supply chain management;
- Quality of care, and;
- Managing mixed health systems.
The course uses a complex adaptive systems approach in conceptualising health systems and developing actions to strengthen them, bringing together global health expertise and evidence in an engaging and interactive multimedia experience.
The first course launched on 8th July, and will run three-four times per year. It has been designed for participants to complete at a rate of one module per week over eight weeks, however, the whole course will remain open for three months and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual or organisation. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate from the University of Melbourne and UNICEF.
Through this free online course, we’ve made it easy to build health systems strengthening capacity in you as an individual, your staff, or other collaborators, providing common frameworks and approaches to work collaboratively to strengthen health systems.
