Marie Ishida

Marie Ishida is a Research Assistant in the Emerging Programs in Global Health unit and a PhD Candidate at the Nossal Institute of Global Health. She is supporting a range of projects related to health economics of non-communicable diseases and maternal and child health. She has extensive experience in conducting quantitative research and projects using surveillance data and household surveys from various socio-economic contexts, including high-income as well as low- and middle-income countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as a lead epidemiologist in the COVID-19 Public Health Division at the Victorian Department of Health.

Marie joined Nossal Institute for Global Health in 2019 after completing a Master of Public Health at the University of Melbourne. While pursuing her master’s degree, she completed an internship at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and contributed to delivering NCD prevention program to healthcare workers from Pacific countries. Prior to coming to Australia, she also gained a clinical experience as a registered nurse and midwife in Japan.

She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Melbourne, funded by Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) overseas post-graduate study scholarship (government sponsored) and Melbourne Research Scholarship.
