Shabaz has 15 years’ experience in managing development and humanitarian programs and projects. He worked with the United Nations Development Program in Iraq for five years as part of the Rule of Law Program. With UNDP, Shabaz managed a legal aid program providing legal and social services to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
Shabaz has worked with an international humanitarian NGO, Norwegian People’s Aid, and was a General Director of a national development organisation, People’s Development Association, in Iraq.
Shabaz has a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Sulaimani, Iraq and he has received specialised training in several areas. These include Rule of Law and Security Sector Reform from the Folke Bernadotte Academy in Sweden, Applied Conflict Analysis in Conflict Sensitive Programming by the UN and an International Visitor Leadership Program on best practices in NGO management from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State.
