Dr Manjula Marella
Manjula’s research focuses on measuring disability and its impact on the lives of people with disabilities. She is part of a team working in the field of disability inclusion – an emerging area with opportunities and challenges and a diversity of projects that maintains Manjula’s interest.
Manjula has a B.S in Optometry from India and specialised in low vision rehabilitation. She did her PhD at the University of Melbourne where she developed an evaluation framework for community-based rehabilitation services. Manjula worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia at the University of Melbourne before joining the Nossal Institute in 2013.
A career highlight for Manjula was receiving the University of Melbourne Early Career Research Grant in 2016. This allowed her to further her research in Indonesia and to work with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).
Outside of her work and research, Manjula enjoys reading and travelling but at the moment her free time is devoted to her one-year-old daughter who keeps her very busy!
