Using a multi-media intervention focussed on masculinity to increase men's help-seeking.

Tuesday 6th August 1pm-2pm
Room 405a, Level 4, 207 Bouverie Street

Summary: The thesis examined the ways that Man Up, a media-based population-level suicide prevention intervention, contributed to increased help-seeking by men via a focus on masculinity. Four key research questions were explored - did Man Up increase men's help-seeking? Did Man Up decrease men's adherence to harmful masculine norms? What were the other impacts of Man Up? How did Man Up create change? The thesis demonstrates the importance of masculine norms in interventions aimed at men's help-seeking. The media is highlighted as a valuable tool. Strategies and actions for future help-seeking interventions for men are made, and avenues for further research are recommended.
