Are you a non-GP specialist doing any work in the private sector?

This study is for you.

Why is this research important to you?

Increasing numbers of non-GP specialists in Australia is placing pressure on earnings and fee revenue from private practice. At the same time, patients have been dropping private cover because of rising out-of-pocket costs. Understanding what you think about these issues is important in helping to maintain affordability and access to care by patients and understanding how private practice business models in Australia can adapt.

Are you eligible?

  • Non-GP specialist working in the Australian private sector
  • A fellow of a medical specialist college

What do the study involve?

We are interested in hearing about how you set your fees, your participation in gap agreements with private health insurers, and what you think about improved price transparency for patients (e.g. Medical Costs Finder). We are looking to interview medical and procedural non-GP specialists across various specialties (e.g. surgery, anaesthesia) who work (part-time or full-time) in Australian private hospitals and/or private rooms. The interview takes no more than 30 minutes over the telephone. Your responses will be kept confidential and quotes from participants will be de-identified in the published paper. Please read the plain language statement below and schedule an interview time with us. A member of the research team will call you to conduct the interview at your requested time. You will receive a Coles digital gift card ($80) for your participation.
