Congratulations to Dr Lucio Naccarella from the Centre for Health Policy

Dr Lucio Naccarella, Senior Research Fellow at the Health Systems and Workforce Unit in the Centre for Health Policy, and Professor James Buchan, Professor at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and an honorary staff member of the University of Melbourne, have recently been awarded a High Commendation at the European Healthcare Design Awards 2016 ceremony at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in London.

Their research on ‘Design Matters for Nurses’ was a collaborative effort between the University of Melbourne and the international architectural firm HASSELL. The purpose of the project was to identify and review nurse experiences about how hospital designs influences nursing staff attraction and retention, to inform the development of a hospital design exercise. Hospital nursing staff attraction and retention are significant issues, particularly as nursing workforce turnover and shortage exists in many systems and countries.

The prestigious award was presented to HASSELL on behalf of Dr Naccarella and Dr Buchan by the RCP on the 28th of June, in the presence of an audience of over 300 leading international researchers, policy advisors and practitioners.
