Public Health Transforming Lung Cancer Care
Presenter: A/Prof Emily Stone
For decades, lung cancer has been a disease diagnosed late and is associated with a poor prognosis, fear and stigma. Lung cancer care is undergoing a transformation, with earlier diagnosis, longer term survival and improved quality of life being a reality for many people. In this seminar, A/Prof Emily Stone will speak about this paradigm shift and how clinicians, researchers and public health professionals have worked together to mount a strong case for transformative care, including the introduction of a targeted
national lung cancer screening program and targeted therapies. Seminar participants will have an opportunity to engage in discussion about the key approaches used to transform lung cancer care and share ideas about what comes next.
A/Prof Stone is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and
conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales. Her chief clinical and
research interests are in the fields of lung cancer screening, multidisciplinary team care
and tobacco control. She is the NSW Principal Investigator for the International Lung Screen
Trial (ILST) investigating low dose CT screening for lung cancer in Australia and internationally.
