CHP PhD Confirmation Seminar: Tom Shore

Mapping the corporatisation of for-profit healthcare in Australia

Healthcare privatisation and corporatisation has been widely adopted to address rising costs worldwide. In Australia, private corporations now dominate for-profit healthcare, replacing a cottage industry of private owner-operated facilities.

This PhD investigates the impact of for-profit private sector growth and consolidation in Australia's healthcare system. It aims to document the development of major ASX-Health Care Sector companies, investigate the role of Australia's regulatory agencies working in healthcare M&A, and assess mechanisms which allow for critical assessment of accountability in Australian healthcare.
