Professor Oyarce is an anthropologist from the University of Chile and an external doctoral supervisor for PhD candidate Ms Angeline Ferdinand. She is internationally recognised for her expertise in Indigenous health, and is particularly renowned for her focus on cross-cultural concepts of health, the valorisation of Indigenous health knowledge and the articulation between traditional Indigenous models of health and biomedical care. As part of her Fellowship, Professor Oyarce will be delivering a public lecture with the proposed title ‘Indigenous traditional medicine and biomedical care: Contradictory or complementary?’.

The Miegunyah Distinguished Visiting Fellowship Program was established to provide an opportunity for internationally-renowned scholars from overseas to visit the University of Melbourne, and contribute to the University’s academic, intellectual and cultural activities.
