Audit for National Mental Health Commission

In January 2020 the Justice Health Unit, in collaboration with the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research, completed an audit of high level government policies in Australia relevant to the mental health of justice-involved people.  This was commissioned by the National Mental Health Commission to identify gaps and opportunities to act.  The report looks at different stages of the criminal justice system - police, courts, forensic services, prison and release to community – and reviews how well high level policies align with the key relevant standards.  It makes recommendations about areas for improvement and highlights good policy examples. The report is currently being considered by the National Mental Health Commission. To access the report, click here.
