In March 2017, Prof Stuart Kinner provided evidence to the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory. The evidence Stuart provided addressed key issues regarding the admission and assessment of children in youth detention and continuity of services for children post-release.
Stuart’s submission described what is known about children’s health status, their needs and service planning. Additionally, it highlighted the criticality of continuity of care and appropriate post-release treatment for youth, in order to ensure that any health gains realised during episodes of detention are not lost.
The Commission’s final report is available online.
