  • Project: Replanting the Birthing Trees to Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Parents and Babies

This highly innovative Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led project builds on >$25 million of previous investment, community-co-design, strong evidence and successful perinatal care programs.

We aim to transform compounding cycles of intergenerational trauma and harm to positively reinforcing cycles of intergenerational nurturing and recovery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and babies.

Our team of community leaders, peak bodies, health and social care services, education providers, mental and family health clinicians, researchers, and consumers will collaborate to

  • address critical and documented gaps in perinatal care
  • drive health system reform, and
  • establish a transformative shift in health policies and practice.

This will enable scale up of culturally grounded, safe, holistic, trauma-integrated, transdisciplinary continuity-of-care in the first 2000 days to ensure all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies have the best possible start to life.

In so doing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents will be supported, once again, to achieve their dreams for a happy, safe, healthy family in this abundant land.
