Vandemonians: The understory of colonial Victoria
The project is under contract to MUP (Meigunyah), expected publication mid-2021. Built from the ARC funded projects ‘Founders and Survivors’ and ‘Land and Life’. The first cradle-to-grave history of convicts transported to Van Diemen’s Land and who later settled in Victoria.
ST Gill’s depiction of the red-light district of Melbourne in the 1850s, and of the many Vandemonians who came to an unfortunate end in the city.
