Title of PhD:

Sexual violence against female victims in Ethiopia: health services’ response to the mental health effects

Abstract:

Sexual violence is a serious public health and human rights problem with both short-and long-term consequences on physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. In Ethiopia, the mental health burden, pattern of sexual violence and associated mental ill health, the quality of services provision, and its outcome remain unclear. My PhD project will therefore retrospectively investigate the mental health effects of sexual violence among female victims in Ethiopia. This project will also generate evidence on the pattern of mental ill health, service utilization barriers and the reason for drop out from the mental health services among female victims of sexual violence.
