Comment on the new website to help return Indigenous Ancestral Remains to Australia
Dr Lyndon Ormond-Parker comments on the office launch of the Return Reconcile Renew website
Dr Lyndon Ormond-Parker from the University of Melbourne's, School of Population and Global Health, Indigenous Studies Unit commenting on the official launch of the Return Reconcile Renew website said ancestral remains were "removed and stolen" from Indigenous communities for decades and shipped overseas.
"They were taken from burial sites, morgues, hospitals ... under the guise of medical research or scientific purposes," he told SBS News.
A new website has been launched to help return Indigenous ancestral remains held in other countries back to local communities in Australia.
On Tuesday 24 September 2019, the Return Reconcile Renew website officially went live with the aim of raising awareness about repatriation and assist people "in their efforts to bring Old People home".
