A/Prof Rohan Borschmann leads research on health and social outcomes for adolescents after release from prison
The Justice Health Unit’s A/Prof Rohan Borschmann recently collaborated with Unit Head, Prof Stuart Kinner, and Dr. Dominique de Andrade from Deakin University on a study now published in the journal Adolescents. The aim of this study, Health and welfare outcomes for adolescents following release from prison in Queensland, Australia: a prospective cohort study, was to examine whether health and welfare outcomes differ between adolescents and their older peers in the first six months after release from prison. The publication can be accessed here.
Findings include that age-specific, integrated support is needed for adolescents during this critical period, including strategies to promote early primary care contact, capitalise on social support networks, and discourage risky substance use.
Congratulations to Rohan and Stuart on this significant piece of work.
