Professor Julie Simpson

Congratulations to Prof Julie Simpson from the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics who has been awarded over $2 million in an NHMRC Investigator Grant that is aiming to advance efforts to eliminate malaria in the Asia-Pacific region.

The threat of antimalarial drug resistance, hidden reservoirs of infection and the lack of safe and effective antimalarial treatments hamper malaria control activities. Prof. Simpson’s work brings together health data science approaches and mathematical modelling to develop new methods to recommend optimal antimalarial treatments and assess radical population interventions, as well as identifying markers of drug resistance, in order to progress malaria elimination efforts.
