Submitting an application
General application requirements
For detailed instructions on submitting your Ethics Application via Themis, please refer to the Research Ethics and Integrity (REI) step-by-step application guide.
Once you reach the "attachments" page in your Themis Ethics Application, you must ensure that each of your attached documents are saved and uploaded to Themis as PDF files. For example, you must upload a PDF file of your Ethics Application Form, a PDF file of your Plain Language Statement, a PDF file of your Consent Form, a PDF file of your Interview Guide and a PDF file of any other documents that might be relevant to your Ethics Application.
In addition to saving and uploading each document as a PDF file, you must save and title each document to indicate the order, type and version number of each document. For example, you must save each document in the following format:
The responsible researcher must include their electronic signature on the PDF Ethics Application Form attached to Themis.
Once you have completed your Themis Ethics Application, uploaded your PDF attachments and pressed submit, you will receive a confirmation email from Themis. If you do not receive this confirmation email, please contact your Ethics Advisor.
Once you have submitted your ethics application via Themis, your application will be reviewed by the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health (MSPGH) Human Ethics Advisory Group (HEAG), which meets on a fortnightly basis.
Applications should be submitted via Themis by 5:00pm on the day of each deadline.

Additional information for students
If you are a student, you will need to ensure that your University email account is activated:
Go to: https://accounts.unimelb.edu.au/
Click on the Student button
Enter the following details:
Date of Birth (format is DD-MON-YYYY)
Postcode of home residence (note: leave postcode blank if you are an International student)
Select option to activate email account and to activate Themis account
Note: if you get an error message saying validation failed, please call the 13MELB contact centre (13 6352) to check that you have the correct details. Once this has been checked, if you still can't log in, call the THEMIS help desk on x49500 (8344 9500 from an external phone).
Once the account has been successfully validated, log into THEMIS:
Go to: http://www.themis.unimelb.edu.au/
Click on the big grey THEMIS button
Enter your user name and password, then click on login
