When should health professionals override parents' decisions about a child's medical treatment?

Project Details

To develop an account of parents' and health professionals' ethical entitlements and obligations in relation to medical decision-making for children

Project summary

In children's hospitals, health professionals sometimes disagree with parents' decisions about a child's healthcare.  The situations in which health professionals are justified in attempting to persuade parents or acting contrary to parents' decisions are currently unclear.  This project will establish the entitlements and responsibilities of both parents and paediatric health professionals in relation to medical decision-making for children.
