Developing the workforce

Improving national capacity, skills and knowledge is a critical component of any strategy to strengthen a civil registration and vital statistics system. Capacity development is needed to ensure high-quality registration of births and deaths, and ascertainment of causes of death. Capacity is also needed in ensuring that the data collected are properly and promptly compiled, checked, analysed and transformed into vital statistics that are used for policy and planning.  This theme is focused on enhancing individual capacities, abilities, networks, skills and knowledge through the development and application of best-practice tools, guidelines and training courses.
