Improving economic outcomes for all in Vanuatu

""

Since 2013, Ms Sally Baker has been advising the Australian Government-funded Vanuatu Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector Strengthening Program in disability inclusion. Sally developed and oversees the implementation of a strategy which addresses the barriers which prevent people with disability from accessing skills development activities such as agriculture and handicraft production training, alongside everyone else.

This work has directly resulted in an increase in the number of people with disability participating in skills development training, and in over 50% of cases, resulted in improved economic circumstances for people with disability and their families. These successes have also raised awareness of the rights and possibilities that exist for people with disability across Vanuatu, and have challenged perceptions of what people with disability can do.

A fifteen minute video illustrating this work was launched on International Day for Persons with Disabilities, December 3, 2015.
