Dr Prabhathi Basnayake
Prabhathi has specialised in Medical Anthropology and health and migration and is now working in health policy, financing and governance in the Asia Pacific region. She joined the Nossal Institute in January 2016 after working as a research officer/fellow and a consultant in national and international health research projects.
Prabhathi has a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka and a Masters in Social Health and Doctoral studies in Medical Anthropology from the University of Melbourne.
Through her work, Prabhathi hopes to help grow and support equitable health systems with the potential to improve health across poor communities, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. She’s also interested in contributing to methodological approaches within medical anthropology and health systems studies that give greater understanding of health behaviour within communities.
